Perinephric Hematoma Following Ureteroscopy and Holmium Laser Lithotripsy

چکیده
We present a case of a ureteropyeloscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy for a 5mm distal ureteral calculus that was complicated by perinephric hemorrhage despite utilization of a ureteral access sheath and the absence of any bleeding disorders. Conservative management was elected and the patient did not require transfusion of blood products. We believe this is the first case of perinephric hemorrhage under these circumstances and suggest that surgeons inform their patients of the low risk of bleeding complications with ureteroscopy.

Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy and intracorporeal lithotripsy for proximal ureteric calculi--a comparative assessment of efficacy and safety.
INTRODUCTION Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the treatment modality of choice of many urologists for proximal ureteric calculi. In this study, we compared the efficacy and safety of ESWL versus ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy for the treatment of this group of stones. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between May 1999 and October 2000, 50 patients had ESWL and another 51 patien...

PURPOSE To present our clinical outcomes in the management of anuria in adult patients caused by ureteral calculi by using of ureteroscopy and holmium laser. MATERIALS AND METHODS Nineteen patients presented with calcular anuria with ages between 19 and 48 years. The presentation was anuria with serum creatinine levels of 2-5.5 mg% (mean 3.5) and hyperkalemia in nine patients (5.2-6.1 mmol/L)...
متن کاملHolmium Laser Lithotripsy with Semi-Rigid Ureteroscopy: A First-Choice Treatment for Impacted Ureteral Stones in Children?
BACKGROUND We aimed to assess the effectiveness of semi-rigid ureteroscopy and holmium laser lithotripsy in the treatment of impacted ureteral stones in children. MATERIAL/METHODS We evaluated a total of 32 children under the age of 18 years treated with ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy for impacted ureteral stones between January 2005 and July 2013. Their stone-free state was defined ...
متن کاملLarge subcapsular hematoma following ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy of renal calculi in a spina bifida patient: lessons we learn
INTRODUCTION Paraplegic patients are at greater risk of developing complications following ureteroscopic lithotripsy because of urine infection associated with neuropathic bladder, difficulties in access due to altered anatomy of urinary bladder and urethra, spinal curvature, spasticity, and contractures. We report the occurrence of large subcapsular hematoma following ureteroscopy and discuss ...
متن کاملComparison of ESWL and Ureteroscopic Holmium Laser lithotripsy in Management of Ureteral Stones
BACKGROUND There are many options for urologists to treat ureteral stones that range from 8 mm to 15 mm, including ESWL and ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy. While both ESWL and ureteroscopy are effective and minimally invasive procedures, there is still controversy over which one is more suitable for ureteral stones. OBJECTIVE To perform a retrospective study to compare the efficiency...
